Golf on Tour

Bryson's dominance continues

Austin Ernst stormed to victory at the LPGA Drive On Championship, going wire-to-wire to finish on -15 and cruise past Jennifer Kupcho by five strokes, despite the 2019 Augusta National Women’s Amateur Champion’s 72nd hole eagle.

Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau was anything but cruising as Lee Westwood forced a straight shoot-out on Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Bay Hill Invitational. The American was victorious, though, thanks in part to driving 370+ yards over a lake on the par-5 sixth hole on both Saturday and Sunday. Talk about entertainment!

The golfer's new clothes

Then & now!

Whenever a brand new driver comes out, it’s hard to imagine things getting any better. There have been some incredible innovations in recent years and who’s to say where we’ll be in 15 years? Why don’t we take a deeper dive into how old drivers compare to the latest models?

Callaway drivers from 2006 vs. 2021

If we take Callaway drivers as an example, we can look at the X460 driver from 2006 – a beloved figure on courses around the world in its heyday - compared to the brand-new Callaway Epic Speed range. The X460 had an all-titanium sole and the centre of gravity had been positioned to favour better players.

The Epic Speed, on the other hand, comes in standard, Max & LS (low-spin) options, meaning all players are catered for. Callaway also used A.I. technology to create a Jailbreak Speed Frame and Flash Face, both generating plenty of distance. Strategic weighting in all models also allows for much more forgiveness than the X460. Result!
